Safe Kids

The Indiana SAFE KIDS Coalition was launched on May 1, 1997 as a statewide initiative by the Automotive Safety Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, Hospital for Children through funding provided by the Indiana Governor's Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving Office of Traffic Safety.
The Indiana SAFE KIDS Coalition is part of the National SAFE KIDS Campaign in Washington D.C., whose national mission is to raise awareness that preventable injuries are the leading public health threat to children today. To accomplish this mission, the National SAFE KIDS Campaign has built a network of over 240 Local and State Coalitions across the country that carry out child injury prevention education through various forums.
The Indiana State SAFE KIDS Coalition has 7 local SAFE KIDS Coalitions and 27 local SAFE KIDS Chapters across the state.

Permanent Fitting Station

The Automotive Safety Program has established a network of Permanent Fitting Stations. Permanent Fitting Stations are places where parents/care-givers can make an appointment to have their child safety seat inspected by a trained child passenger safety technician. The most current information is given to the participant and instruction on how to properly install the child safety seat for their children.
Permanent Fitting Stations are located in approximately 101 locations across Indiana.

The Jefferson County Health Department houses Jefferson County's permanent Fitting Station; here you will find 3 certified child passenger safety technicians. Making an appointment is easy, simply call (812) 273-1942 and ask to speak to a child passenger safety technician. Appointments are made for Wednesday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00.
